The 2004-05 fishing season was a great success for the Rio Negro Foundation supported Project Tucunaré, directed by Dr. Bruce Foresburg of the National Institute for Amazon Research (INPA) in Manaus, Brazil. More than 600 peacock bass representing the three species found in the middle Rio Negro were tagged during the season.

Amazon Turtle Project
Researchers will be capturing turtles on the RNL property as well as buying Big-headed side neck turtles Peltocephalus dumerilianus (cabeçudos) from local fishermen at the head waters of the Rio Itu, which will be used for study of reproduction.

In the last decade there has been much talk about the environment and the changes caused by human activity, an example being global warming caused by an increase in green house gasses.  Methane (CH4), Carbon dioxide (CO2) and Nitrous Oxide (N2O) are the gasses considered to have the greatest warming effect.
