There many things that we often take for granted like electricity, having shoes to wear, or even a change of clothes. Many of the surrounding villages have generators to provide electricity, but often go for extended periods of time with out diesel to run the generators.

Garden

Amazon Garden

Gardens are such a wonderful thing, even more so when they not only benefit one's needs but other's needs as well. It started as just a means to provide fresh produce for guests of the Rio Negro Lodge, but as the garden grew, we had the potential to help those around us by giving away much needed produce. Along with the ability to donate produce for those around us, our growing garden requires constant attention providing jobs for those who could use them.

Bob Borland Memorial Dental Clinic

Dental Clinic

Many people go several years with out a visit to the dentist's office, but imagine going your whole life with out ever seeing a dentist. That was the reality of the people living along the Rio Negro.

Clyde Gibson Medical Clinic

Medical Clinic

On September 20, 1999 we went beyond the medicine cabinet to open the Clyde Gibson Medical Clinic. This was the first major impact on the local people. No longer would they receive whatever we could spare from the first aide kit. Through the donations of many and the help of Clyde Gibson our volunteer physician, we were able for the first time to offer free medical treatment to those who needed it.

Ron Pope Memorial School

School

When questing for those big peacocks, finding remote locations is a good thing, but for the people who live along the Rio Negro the remote location provides other challenges. Education is one of them.
