what you can do: When people hear of what we are trying to do, many want to help in some way. There are several things that can be done to help us as we give a hand up to the community around us. Some fishermen bring down donations of clothes and toys for the children. This is a good way to help, but remember to bring light-weight clothes and also remember that some toys are just not right for the kids. Most have never seen things like cars, trucks, and other things kids in cities would have seen. Toy animals or boats are always safe bets, since these they would have seen.
supplies: Also, we are always in need of dental and medical supplies. Donations of school supplies are another welcome thing: pencils, pens, colored pencils, crayons, construction paper, chalk, and other things for our adult and children education programs. Some donate their time. Our dental clinic is staffed by dentists who take part of their week of fishing off to help out. This is a good way to help people in need.
And of course, one of the easiest ways to help us get what we need to help those who need it is through gifts of money. All checks should be made out to the Rio Negro Foundation, and all donations are tax-deductible. The Rio Negro Foundation is filed as a 501c charity organization.
