Medical Clinic

On September 20, 1999 we went beyond the medicine cabinet to open the Clyde Gibson Medical Clinic. This was the first major impact on the local people. No longer would they receive whatever we could spare from the first aide kit. Through the donations of many and the help of Clyde Gibson our volunteer physician, we were able for the first time to offer free medical treatment to those who needed it.

Before the Clyde Gibson Medical Clinic was opened there was no other feasible option for treatment because the only way to reach a doctor was to travel 50 miles or more by canoe, often taking a day or more. Now there is a full-time Brazilian doctor who staffs the clinic year-round so that there is someone to see to the needs of the people even during the off-season when previously our doctor had to return home.
Running a fully functional doctor's office year round has its expenses, so we rely on the generous donations of caring people to continue medical treatment to a people in need.
